Express Entry
Foreign Nationals seeking to obtain Permanent Resident status as a skilled worker, must apply through the new Canada Express Entry program.
The Express Entry program is the new selection system for those who wish to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. It replaces the former “first come first serve” system with an electronic process that invites the strongest applicants to apply for Permanent Resident status.
How Express Entry Works
One of the main features and changes of the Express Entry program is that foreign skilled workers do not require a job offer from a Canadian company in order to submit an application. Instead, the Express Entry program provides a method for Canadian employers to connect with skilled workers looking to immigrate to Canada. Once the Express Entry application has been submitted, applicants are placed in a pool, where potential employers are able to view the applicant’s CV or Resume.
First, applicants must submit their “Express Entry application” online. Once their “Express Entry application” has been submitted, those applicants with the highest scores will be invited to the second step of the application process; the “Permanent Residency application”. The Comprehensive Ranking System calculates each applicant’s score based on numerous criteria such as work experience, education, language ability, and Canadian experience.
